The constructive dimension intrinsic to color according to Sonia Delaunay is evident in this white ceramic plate with colored enamel decoration. This is Artcurial's reissue of the plate made in 1968. It is accompanied by a blue enamelled plate.
The pure composition of the work demonstrates the intensity of Delaunay's art in a minimalist, cleaner, purer form. There is no question of lyrical flights of fancy here, but of a measured harmony of color and form governed by relationships of simultaneity. The rectangle dominates, creating a dissonance with the round shape of the plate. Its repetition structures the cross-shaped composition. The white space in the center draws the eye to a dialogue between three semi-circles that face each other and complete the work's skilfully mastered balance.
