Anna-Eva Bergman attended the Academy of Applied Arts in 1926-1927 and the Oslo Fine Arts School in 1927-1928, then continued her training in Vienna in 1928-1929 and in Paris where she was a student of André Lhote in the spring of 1929. In autumn she married the painter Hans Hartung in Dresden and exhibited in Dresden and Oslo in 1931. After spending time in Minorca from 1933 to 1935, in France and Italy, she returned to Norway in 1939, where she stopped painting for health reasons for almost ten years. That same year, she divorced Hans Hartung. She then devoted herself to journalism, illustration and caricature to support the household. She studied philosophy.
Returning to painting ten years later, Anna-Eva Bergman held a new exhibition in Oslo in 1950, moved to Paris in 1952 and remarried Hartung in 1957. She produced etchings, burin, drypoint, exhibited at "La Hune", participated regularly in the Salon de Mai and exhibited in France, notably at the Galerie de France, in Norway and in Italy. In 1964, Anna-Eva Bergman travelled with Hartung along the Norwegian coast during which she took more than a thousand photographs. From 1970 onwards, Hartung and Anna-Eva Bergman lived in Antibes. The Hans Hartung and Anna-Eva Bergman Foundation was established there in 1994.
Anna-Eva Bergman died on 24 July 1987 in Grasse.
