Aquatint, drypoint and carborundum on Arches paper
Simplicity and sobriety, combined with a touch of dream and color, are the hallmarks of Miro's art. In this aquatint, the Dandy's blackness stands out brilliantly against a background of warm, brownish tones. A halo of shimmering colors, from soft pink to sapphire blue, encompassing imperial green and piercing yellow, unfolds around the figure, subtly soothing the contrast between the deep darkness of the carborundum and its setting. Le Dandy is one of the prints that enabled Joan Miró to "give more substance and power" to his art.
