Part of the “Gordes” album completed in 1971
In 1948, Vasarely discovered the village of Gordes perched in the Vaucluse mountains. He quickly fell under its spell and decided to spend every summer there. It was in this Provencal landscape that the artist drew the inspiration that would lead him from figurative art to kinetic art. This engraving is the first in the album “Gordes”, in which we see his stylistic evolution, from his first engravings of the château, through abstraction to his famous silkscreen prints.
