Chéri-Bibi, the central character in a fascinating work by Gaston Leroux, is a captivating protagonist who undertakes a radical change of identity by opting for cosmetic surgery. This story, full of twists and turns, has impressed many readers with its captivating plot and profound themes.
This mythical character also exerted a significant influence on the artistic world, inspiring the renowned artist Max Ernst (1891-1976). In 1973, Max Ernst paid tribute to this iconic character by launching a special bronze edition entitled Chéri-Bibi. This initiative was a continuation of his artistic exploration, since it was inspired by a sculpture of the same name that he had created in 1964.
The bronze edition of Chéri-Bibi by Max Ernst is not only a tribute to this literary character, but also an expression of Ernst's artistic vision. It comprises 175 copies, plus 15 artist's proofs.
