André Lanskoy (1902-1976) was born in Russia, in Moscow, into a noble family. In 1921, he arrived in Paris and, like many young foreign artists, became a student of the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, which was inexpensive and taught very openly. Very quickly, he was noticed by Wilhelm Uhde, first husband of Sonia Delaunay, a talented merchant and tireless defender of young artists. At first figurative, Lanskoy's art turned, at the end of the 1930s, and thanks to the influence of his compatriot Kandinsky (1866-1944), towards abstraction. Friend of Nicolas de Staël, Lanskoy became a key figure in the New School of Paris.
This large lithograph presents a deep black background from which curves, triangles, lines stand out. This black gives a beautiful presence to colored shapes. The composition is balanced in diversity and in colors and shapes.
