Seiko Tachibana was born in Japan, lives and works in San Francisco, USA.
She completed her Master of Arts Education at Kobe University, Japan. She received an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and has since received numerous awards, including the Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation Award. His distinctive work balances minimalist Asian tradition with modernity. Tachibana's work has shown internationally can also be found as part of the Los Angeles County Museum, Fine Art Museums of San Francisco's Legion of Honor, Portland Art Museum, as well as a number of other museums, institutions and individual collections throughout the US, Europe and Japan.
Seiko Tachibana explores the concept of a unifying principle through her art, using shapes, colors, spatial relationships, marks and textures to express the interconnectedness of organic elements. Her approach creates a network structure where the interdependence between these elements reflects a subtle and profound beauty, evoking synergy and meaning within these networks. It is the similarities between natural patterns - plant, mineral and elemental, that intrigue her, discovering self-similar fractal structures in microcosm and macrocosm, between which they weave links.
The notion of Time is an integral part of her artistic language. She sees each point or line as a trace of the past.In 1999, she created a paper installation whose images ran throughout the entire room. The artist interpreted her own installation by engraving each image that initially made it up. The images, called "TOT", are thus part of an ongoing series entitled "Trace Of Time", evoking temporal continuity through individual impressions.
