Follow Akira KITO
Akira Kito, born in 1925 in Tokyo, is part of the lineage of Japanese artists who have marked contemporary art. From the age of 16, influenced by his artistic family environment, he embarked on painting, revealing an early talent.
In 1953, after enriching his experience as a teacher in Japan, he decided to venture beyond the borders of his native country. In France, at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, he discovered and appropriated the techniques of cubism, an artistic revolution that would deeply imprint his work.
Akira Kito's art is characterized by three distinct phases, each reflecting his stylistic evolution and relentless quest for expression. The humorous period (1955-58) reveals his ability to juggle the nuances of humor in his canvases. Then comes the symbolic period (1958-59), during which he explores the depths of symbolism, infusing his works with narrative and conceptual richness. Finally, from 1959, he fully embraces abstraction, a realm where his art reaches remarkable maturity and depth.
His stay in France, spanning many years, allows him not only to perfect his art but also to make a significant contribution to the European artistic landscape. Despite his immersion in Western culture, he remains deeply rooted in his Japanese origins, a trait that shines through in his work.
Akira Kito's life concludes in Yokohama, Japan, in 1994. His artistic legacy remains a cultural bridge between East and West, testifying to art's ability to transcend geographical and cultural boundaries.
