The Japanese artist is one of the modern exponents of the play of darkness in printmaking. His aim is to achieve a wide variety of blacks using the “mezzotint” or “halftone” technique. Yozo Hamagochi brings objects out of the shadows, in this case a still life with cherries, with striking depth effects.
