Bram van Velde (1895-1981) was one of the most original masters of abstraction. Painter not very prolific, existentially restless, not very confident in life and in the world. He was saved by art
: contemplate art - Matisse's music lessons were an aesthetic shock for Van Velde - but also practice art. Lithography takes on growing importance in his career. He never practiced engraving on copper, too graphic in his eyes. The colors allowed by lithography hold his full attention. Those of the current work are of joyful and stimulating clarity and luminosity. The painter's gesture is visible in these shapes, both geometric and biomorphic, which are the stylistic signature of this unclassifiable artist, admired by William De Kooning, great master of post-war American painting.
