Bernard Buffet's album "La Révolution française" is a series of graphic works created to commemorate the bicentenary of the French Revolution. The album illustrates emblematic scenes from this historic event, from the storming of the Bastille to the execution of Louis XVI.
Here, it depicts the storming of the Bastille in July 1789. In the left background, the mass of the medieval fortress stands out, dark and ominous. The foreground is occupied by revolutionaries, men, women and children, in a fraternal spirit. The colors white, red and blue recall the French flag. Buffet, as usual, essentializes his motif and uses his line. The tension of this memorable day is palpable.
