A very beautiful plate, a small edition of 75 copies, a demanding technique: etching and aquatint, an emblematic artist of the first abstraction of the early 20th century: Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979). All these qualities are combined in this work of great delicacy of composition and execution.
The composition of this etching takes up the main principles of Sonia Delaunay's art, which she had been exploring for more than forty years, in the 1970s, when our work was produced. The circles of colour influence movement and chromatic power.
The choice of technique - etching and aquatint - allows the artist to create watercolour effects that give a very light texture to the ink through delicate washes. A vertical axis distributes the colours and shapes, creating at the same time a symmetry and an asymmetry, generating a dynamic balance. Sonia Delaunay uses the technique of etching to engrave on a metal plate a weft of intertwined lines which form on the final plate this very tight guilloche, which gives rhythm to the whole composition.
