Follow André BRASILIER
André Brasilier, born on October 29, 1929, in Saumur, stands out as a French painter, watercolorist, lithographer, and ceramist. His works, seeking harmony between plastic construction and emotion, reflect his approach to painting as a "transfigurative" art. For Brasilier, painting transcends realism to effect a metamorphosis of reality.
Coming from a family of artists, his familial environment greatly influenced his vocation. His father, Jacques Brasilier, was a symbolist painter, influenced by the Nabis movement, while his mother, Alice Chaumont, was also a painter. These early influences shaped his artistic approach, where color, form, and symbolism play a central role. Through his marriage to Chantal d'Hauterives, he became the brother-in-law of the painter Arnaud d'Hauterives, thus enriching his artistic circle.
In 1949, André Brasilier joined the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, training under Maurice Brianchon. This period marked a time of development and experimentation, allowing him to refine his unique style.
His residency at the Villa Medici in Rome, from 1954 to 1957, was a crucial step in his career. During these years, he immersed himself in Italy's rich cultural and artistic heritage, enriching his palette and deepening his understanding of both classical and modern art.
Over the years, Brasilier developed a distinctive style characterized by vibrant colors, clean forms, and a certain poetic melancholy. His preferred subjects include landscapes, portraits, and equestrian scenes, often imbued with tranquility and serenity.
The artist has created a world where dreams and reality harmoniously coexist. His ability to convey inner peace and contemplation through his canvases has earned him international renown. His exhibitions in prestigious galleries and museums worldwide testify to his success and the appreciation of his art.
